At least six people have been killed in landslides and floods caused by tropical storm Kajiki in the central Philippines, officials say. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Monday that one person sustained injuries and five others went missing in storm-related accidents. The disaster agency added that nearly 43,000 people have been affected by the storm in nine provinces in the central and southern Philippines. Kajiki also caused damage to 83 houses and a number of roads in the affected areas. On January 24, flooding and landslides killed 56 people in the southern Philippines’ region of Mindanao. An average of 20 typhoons hit the Philippines every year. At least 1,200 people were killed by Typhoon Haiyan in the two worst-hit areas of the Philippines in November 2013. In 2012, nearly 2,000 people died and went missing in the heavy rains that affected the southern parts of the country. In December 2011, Typhoon Washi claimed the lives of 1,200 people, displaced 300,000 and destroyed more than 10,000 homes.Press TV
