Three Souls Perish In 'Unbelievably Big' 4 Mile Wide 250 Feet Deep Mudslide In Colorado: At The First Blow Of His Thundering Sword, The Mountains And All Nature Will Tremble In Terror

(Daily Mail) Rescue teams are searching for three people reported missing after a large mudslide struck in western Colorado’s Mesa County. The slide hit Sunday in a remote area near the town of Collbran, about 40 miles east of Grand Junction. Rescuers raced to the scene when it was reported around 6 p.m MDT, but eased operations after nightfall, Mesa County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa McCammon said. There’s 'not a lot of activity tonight,' she said. The 'slide area is very unstable.' She said a daylight search was safer. The department estimated the slide is about 4 miles long, 2 miles wide and about 250 feet deep in many places. 'This slide is unbelievably big,' Mesa County Lt. Phil Stratton said. The department said crews were searching for three residents of the Collbran area after they were reported missing in the slide area, situated near Salt Creek road and Vega Reservoir. The site is in a rural part of the county and there were no reports of any structures damaged or major roads affected, McCammon said. The sheriff’s office said that the person who reported the slide at about 6:15 p.m. 'described hearing a noise that sounded much like a freight train.' A unified incident command has been established between Plateau Valley Fire Department and the Mesa sheriff, to handle the slide and search for the people possibly caught in it. Authorities say the heavy rains that fell over the weekend contributed to the slide. The avalanche occurred about two months after a massive mudslide hit the Washington state community of Oso on March 22, killing 43 people. The National Weather Service in Boulder, Colorado issued an advisory this month warning that monsoon rains which caused flooding in the state last September could increase the possibility of landslides as the state's deep snowpack melts. 'The September 2013 rains likely destabilized hillsides and steep slopes, so increased landslides and rock slides will also be possible this spring, particularly with heavier or prolonged rainfall,' the weather service said. Roadblocks have been set up to keep people from the rural area. Conditions are described as “very unstable” by authorities.

KATMANDU, Nepal (AP) — Nepalese officials say an avalanche has swept three climbers and they are now presumed dead on the slopes of Mount Kanchenjunga, the world's third tallest peak. Police official Meghraj Kadel says rescuers found no trace of an Indian climber and her two Nepalese Sherpa guides after they were hit by the avalanche at 7,300 meters (23,940 feet) on Wednesday. The Indian was identified as 35-year-old Chanda Gayen, and her guides Temba and Dawa Wanju. They scaled Kanchenjunga on Sunday and were attempting to climb Yalung Kang, a sister peak. In April, an avalanche hit a trail on Mount Everest, killing 16 Sherpa guides in the mountain's worst disaster that led to the cancellation of the climbing season because many Sherpa guides refused work.

New Mexico Dust Storm Kills Seven Souls

Water and fire will give the earth's globe convulsions and terrible earthquakes which will swallow up mountains, cities, etc...Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)
DEMING, N.M. (AP) — A fiery multi-vehicle crash along Interstate 10 in southwestern New Mexico that involved at least three tractor-trailers and three passenger cars has left seven people dead. New Mexico State Police originally counted six fatalities from Thursday's crash, but they said late Friday that one of the victim's family members reported three people were in one car involved in the crash — not two victims as previously reported. The names of the victims haven't been released. Police also determined that eight vehicles were involved in the crash. All that was left of some of them were charred hunks of nearly indiscernible metal. The crash in Hidalgo County, several miles from the Arizona border, came as New Mexico and the region was struck Thursday afternoon by a violent storm system. Severe weather and large hail caused multiple car wrecks in northern New Mexico and the eastern part of the state saw damaging winds reaching more than 60 mph. Thick dust was reported in southern New Mexico on Thursday. Signs along the stretch of the interstate where the crash happened warn of dust storms. "A sudden dust storm that limited visibility to almost nothing caused the lead vehicle to stop suddenly, causing a chain reaction of rear-end collisions," police said in a statement issued Friday. After the flames from Thursday's crash were doused, workers dragged all of the wreckage to the side of the road. Photographs show the burned-out shell of what was left of a car along with the twisted metal frames of several big rigs. Police said the exact sequence of events remained under investigation. The interstate was shut down in both directions following the crash. The road was open Friday but authorities were advising travelers that the speed limit has been reduced. Authorities warned that more severe weather was possible for much of New Mexico through the weekend. Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected along the eastern plains and into the southeast, while dry, gusty storms were expected to move across the southwestern corner of New Mexico. Forecasters with the National Weather Service say winds of up to 60 mph are expected in the south and warned travelers not to drive into the resulting dust.

(The Local) A passenger in a camping car in the department of Aveyron and a sixty-year-old woman in Dordogne were killed on Wednesday as violent storms, accompanied by gale force winds and downpours swept across the country. The passenger in the campervan was killed when a tree was blown over in gale force winds in the town of Bozouls. The driver of the vehicle escaped unhurt, according to Europe1 radio. According to one witness emergency crews tried to resuscitate the victim but were unable to save him. “They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Five seconds later and they would have been fine,” the witness said. The sixty-old woman was killed in the Dordogne town of Bira, when the roof of a barn collapsed. A 40-year-old woman who was with her was also seriously injured and had to be rushed to hospital. The storms which an area of France from the Pyrennees to Paris and Pas de Calais region also left more than 51,000 homes without power at various stages on Wednesday. Some 28,000 homes were still without electricity on Thursday morning in Aquitane, Midi-Pyrenees, the Auvergne and Limousin. Officials said power should be restored at some point on Thursday. Orange alerts that were imposed in 32 departments on Wednesday have now been lifted.

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) — Samira Mahmic thought she was getting her life back when she was winched into a helicopter with her 10-year-old son clinging to her amid the worst flooding in more than a century in the Balkans. But she froze when she realized the helicopter was now fully loaded and she looked down to see her 17-year-old daughter Amina, watching in disbelief as the aircraft left her behind on a roof sticking out of a sea of water. "I thought they would go back but it got too late last night," Mahmic said Friday.Luckily her daughter's mobile phone still had some battery Friday morning and Mahmic was able to reassure herself that her daughter and husband were both still alive. "It's Judgment Day in Maglaj," Mahmic said of her northern Bosnian hometown that was hit by the heaviest rainfall since measuring started 120 years ago.

(BBC) 14 May This week flood waters also washed away a big section of the main north-south road in the Tashqorghan gorge, effectively cutting off the north of the country. Thousands of travellers are now stranded on both sides. Emergency repair work will take at least 10 days. Further north-east in Badakhshan province, people are still reeling from a devastating landslide at the start of the month. Three hundred houses were engulfed in thick mud in one of the poorest districts, Argo. Hundreds of people, including many women and children, are thought to have been killed. After news of the landslide emerged the government declared a day of national mourning and ordered emergency assistance. But it was the public response to the disaster that has been unprecedented.

Los Angeles (United States) (AFP) - Thousands of people fled raging wildfires in southern California which destroyed homes and triggered evacuations at a nuclear power plant, a military base and a Legoland amusement park. The blazes, which also closed a major north-south highway, come amid record temperatures in the western US state, where the annual wildfire season typically starts much later in the year. At least 15 buildings have been destroyed, including three homes, said Michael Davis, fire chief in the seaside resort of Carlsbad, north of San Diego. "At times it looks like there’s fire in the sky with the wind whipping back and forth," eyewitness Ryan Marble, waiting in a long line at a gas station to get fuel to evacuate, told The Los Angeles Times newspaper.

Second Reported MERS Case In The US: Woe To The Inhabitants Of The Earth! There Will Be Plagues And Infectious Diseases!

Health officials have confirmed a second U.S. case of a mysterious virus that has sickened hundreds in the Middle East. The latest case is not an American — he is a resident of Saudi Arabia, visiting Florida, who is now in an Orlando hospital. He was diagnosed with MERS, or Middle East Respiratory Syndrome, Sunday night. It is a respiratory illness that begins with flu-like fever and cough but can lead to shortness of breath, pneumonia and death.Fortunately, the U.S. cases so far have not been severe. The first case, a man in Indiana, was released from a hospital late last week. And the second patient is doing well, officials said. The two cases are not linked, officials said. 'The risk to the public remains very low,' said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. MERS is a respiratory illness that begins with flu-like fever and cough but can lead to shortness of breath, pneumonia and death. Most cases have been in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere in the Middle East. But earlier this month a first U.S. case was diagnosed in a man who traveled from Saudi Arabia to Indiana. That man, an American, was a health-care worker at a hospital in Saudi Arabia's capital city who flew to the United States on April 24 on a plane that originated in Riyadh, stopped in London and then landed in Chicago. The man took a bus to Munster, Indiana where he became sick and went to a hospital on April 28. He improved and was released from a Munster hospital on Friday. Tests of people who were around the man have all proved negative, health officials have said. Daily Mail Read More>>>>>>

The 6.0-magnitude earthquake that jolted parts of Indonesia today served as a reminder of just how active the seemingly-solid ground beneath us can be. And these reminders have become increasingly frequent. On average, the world only sees one or two earthquakes per month that are 6.5-magnitude or higher. But April produced a higher-than-normal number of the major seismic events, as revealed in this incredible time-lapse video Earthquakes happen every day, and as this animation shows, small ones happen at least once an hour. According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC), which issues alerts for tsunamis, there were 13 major earthquakes in April. Five were higher than 7.8, which prompted tsunami warnings. Moderate-to-large earthquakes are less common, but last month was ‘easily a record for this institution,’ according to the PTWC. The time-lapse takes you on a journey of all recorded large and medium-sized earthquakes that took place from January through to April of this year. Daily Mail Read More>>>>

Tupelo, Mississippi (CNN) -- People in northern Mississippi and Alabama huddled in hallways and basements as a string of tornadoes ripped through their states Monday, a day after another line of storms killed 16 people to their west. Two people were killed at a trailer park west of Athens, Alabama, on Monday, according to a post on the City of Athens Facebook page. Another person died in Richland, Mississippi, said Rankin County Emergency Management Director Bob Wedgeworth, bringing the storms' overall death toll to 19. That toll is expected to rise. William McCully, spokesman for Mississippi's Winston County, told CNN there have been "multiple fatalities" in his county. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency for all counties. Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said the twisters inflicted "severe damage" around the town of Louisville, about 90 miles northeast of Jackson, and more around Tupelo. Winston Medical Center, Louisville's major hospital, was among the buildings hit, Bryant told reporters.

Officials in Afghanistan have said that at least 2,000 people are feared dead after a mountainside collapsed causing a massive landslide in a remote region of the country. Seven people were pulled alive from the mud and debris that flattened 300 homes but rescuers were pessimistic about anyone else being alive beneath the piles of earth. Many victims were villagers who dashed to help their neighbours when a landslide struck but were then caught in a second wave of mud. It was reported that a wedding was taking place in the village. “Now we can only help the displaced people. Those trapped under the landslide and who have lost lives, it is impossible to do anything for them,” said Major General Faziluddin Hayar, the Badakhshan provincial police chief. Those who were caught by the catastrophic landslip were from the village of Hobo Barik, about a third of which was wiped out, and most would have been at home rather than at work because it was a day of worship. Up to 600 people from nearby villages made their way to Hobo Barik, in the north east of the country, to try to help the rescue operation but were severely hampered by a lack of shovels and machinery. The mud covering the devastated village was said to be several metres thick. Independent Read More>>>>>

Woe To The Inhabitants Of The Earth! There Will Be Plagues And Infectious Diseases! Indiana Has Reported The First American Case Of Deadly SARS-Like Virus

NEW YORK (AP) -- Health officials on Friday confirmed the first case of an American infected with a mysterious virus that has sickened hundreds in the Middle East.

The man fell ill after flying to the U.S. late last week from Saudi Arabia where he was a health care worker.

He is hospitalized in good condition in northwest Indiana with Middle East respiratory syndrome, or MERS, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Indiana health officials, who are investigating the case.

The virus is not highly contagious and this case "represents a very low risk to the broader, general public," Dr. Anne Schuchat told reporters during a CDC briefing.

The federal agency plans to track down passengers he may have been in close contact with during his travels; it was not clear how many may have been exposed to the virus.

So far, it is not known how he was infected, Schuchat said.

Saudi Arabia has been at the center of a Middle East outbreak of MERS that began two years ago. The virus has spread among health care workers, most notably at four facilities in that county last spring.

Officials didn't provide details about the American's job in Saudi Arabia or whether he treated MERS patients.

Overall, at least 400 people have had the respiratory illness, and more than 100 people have died. All had ties to the Middle East region or to people who traveled there.

Experts said it was just a matter of time before MERS showed up in the U.S., as it has in Europe and Asia.

"Given the interconnectedness of our world, there's no such thing as `it stays over there and it can't come here,'" said Dr. W. Ian Lipkin, a Columbia University MERS expert.

MERS belongs to the coronavirus family that includes the common cold and SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, which caused some 800 deaths globally in 2003.

The MERS virus has been found in camels, but officials don't know how it is spreading to humans. It can spread from person to person, but officials believe that happens only after close contact. Not all those exposed to the virus become ill.

But it appears to be unusually lethal - by some estimates, it has killed nearly a third of the people it sickened. That's a far higher percentage than seasonal flu or other routine infections. But it is not as contagious as flu, measles or other diseases. There is no vaccine or cure and there's specific treatment except to relieve symptoms.

Federal and state health officials on Friday released only limited information about the U.S. case: On April 24, the man flew from Riyadh - Saudi Arabia's capital and largest city - to the United States, with a stop in London. He landed in Chicago and took a bus to nearby Indiana. He didn't become sick until Sunday, the CDC said.

He went to the emergency room at Community Hospital in Munster the next day with a fever, cough and shortness of breath. He was admitted and tested for the MERS virus because he had traveled from the Middle East. The hospital said he was in good condition.

As a precaution, the hospital said it would monitor the man's family and health care workers who treated him for any signs of infection.

There's been a recent surge in MERS illnesses in Saudi Arabia; cases have tended to increase in the spring. Experts think the uptick may partly be due to more and better surveillance. Columbia's Lipkin has an additional theory - there may be more virus circulating in the spring, when camels are born.

The CDC has issued no warnings about travel to countries involved in the outbreak. However, anyone who develops fever, cough or shortness of breath within two weeks of traveling in or near the Arabian Peninsula should see their doctor and mention their travel history.

Several Cities Will Be Shaken Down And Swallowed Up! Baltimore City Street Washes Away Taking Several Cars With It!

(WP) A street in the Charles Village neighborhood of Baltimore collapsed Wednesday, washing away cars and flooding CSX railroad tracks that run below street level. Ian Brennan, a spokesman for the Baltimore fire department, said no injuries were reported. One lane of the East 26th Street between North Charles and St. Paul streets collapsed about 4 p.m. and slid down an embankment leading to the tracks below. The cause of the collapse was unclear, but it came on a day that the region was experiencing heavy rainstorms. Several streets were closed late Wednesday afternoon. St. Paul and Charles are major thoroughfares that are generally crowded during both the morning and evening commutes. The neighborhood is largely residential rowhouses. Traffic was reported to be snarled in the area of the collapse and downtown. Brennan said no houses were damaged, but fire officials said many residents living along East 26th Street were ordered to leave until building inspectors can assess their properties. Photographs show a wide area of destruction in what appears to have been a landslide. The railroad tracks are covered with water, dirt and more than a half-dozen cars that went down the embankment. Baltimore officials said CSX has suspended rail service through the city. A spokesman for CSX did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
