Lyon Floods

France's second city Lyon has two rivers, the Rhone and the Saone, and both are dangerously high after weeks of rain. The wet start to 2018 that has Parisiens worried and the Louvre evacuating artworks is also raising concerns here, with two rivers meeting to worry about. The city's public underground car parks are being forced to close their lower levels, and the water level could soon threaten some bankside roads. Residents have not seen water levels like this for some time. The last time the city experienced flooding it was mainly in the western Saone approaches, with the riverside road north cut on both sides, and some homes flooded on the north-western outskirts. CDC: This Flu Season Worst Since 2009 Swine Flu Pandemic

CDC: This flu season worst since 2009 swine flu pandemic

Federal health officials warned Friday that this year's flu outbreak is more severe than any other since the 2009 swine flu pandemic, and that its intensity is still increasing. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said in a phone call with reporters that the number of people experiencing flu-like symptoms is increasing. Hospitalizations for influenza are also rising. What's more, flu activity has stayed at the same level nationwide for about three weeks, said Dr. Dan Jernigan, the director of the CDC’s Influenza Division. That sets it apart from many flu seasons, in which activity wanes in certain parts of the U.S. Source

OUR LADY OF LA SALETTE ON THE FLU PANDEMIC: Growing Number Of Young Children Dying From Flu

Growing number of young children dying from flu

The family of a 12-year-old boy in Florida is grieving after flu is suspected in the child's death on Tuesday. Dylan Winnik had sniffles and was exhausted, symptoms his family initially thought were a cold. Now, they believe it was flu.  Health officials aren't sure yet, but Dylan may be the latest in a growing number of young children dying this year from influenza. A 6-year-old girl in North Carolina died from flu on Jan. 18, a few days after falling ill. When Emily Muth's breathing become labored, her worried parents called an ambulance. Paramedics told the family Emily was experiencing typical flu symptoms and that she'd be better soon. But a few short hours after the ambulance left, the girl stopped breathing, her family posted on their GoFundMe page.  It's too soon to say whether the current flu season, which may last until May, will lead to more pediatric deaths than usual. As of Jan. 13, there had been 30 flu-associated fatalities in children, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The actual number of pediatric deaths may be higher, since it takes a few weeks for CDC to gather the information, and not all states report flu deaths quickly or in the same way. The CDC will report new data on pediatric deaths on Jan. 26. Source

ALASKA EARTHQUAKE CAUSES WELL WATER TO RISE IN FLORIDA!

Water and fire will give the earth's globe convulsions and terrible earthquakes which will swallow up mountains, cities, etc...Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)

At the first blow of His thundering sword, the mountains and all Nature will tremble in terror, for the disorders and crimes of men have pierced the vault of the heavens. Paris will burn and Marseilles will be engulfed. Several cities will be shaken down and swallowed up by earthquakes. Our Lady of La Salette 19 Sept. 1846 (Published by Mélanie 1879)

Something Shocking Happened in Florida After the Alaska Earthquake: Well Water Levels Changed

Tuesday's 7.9 magnitude earthquake in the Gulf of Alaska sent vibrations through the earth that caused water to rise and fall in wells in Florida, thousands of miles away.  Sensors near Fort Lauderdale and Madison, near the Georgia border, showed a minor change in water levels after the earthquake, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). A water level rise from 41.59 feet to 41.77 feet was recorded at the well near Madison before it returned to normal. At the well near Fort Lauderdale, the water level fell from 1.42 feet to 1.31 feet.   Why did water levels in these wells some 3,800 miles away from the earthquake's epicenter change?  Source

The quake hit 280km (173 miles) south-east of Kodiak, at a depth of 25km, at 00:31 local time (09:31 GMT), the US Geological Survey said.  The US National Weather Service (NWS) said tsunami waves of less than 1ft (0.3m) had been confirmed.  A lower-level advisory briefly remained in effect for south Alaska and the peninsula, before being lifted.  Waves between 0.4ft and 0.7ft had been recorded in Kodiak, Seward, Old Harbor, Sitka and Yakutat, the NWS said.  It said that tsunami waves of less than 1ft were expected in the town of Homer.  The latest advisory would be the last handed out, the service said - but still advised residents not to return to "hazard zones until local emergency officials indicate it is safe to do so".  Residents had earlier been told to seek high ground as sirens in several towns blared at around 01:00 on Tuesday. Four hours later, the all-clear was given.  Kodiak City Manager Mike Tvenge thanked residents for their orderly evacuations and told them to return home safely. Mayor Pat Branson said the warning centre had done an "excellent job".  Kodiak school district cancelled all classes on Tuesday because of the warning, telling students to remain home. Source

FLU TURNING INTO PLAGUE? Mother Battling Flu Has 30% Of Her Flesh Eaten Away

Mother-of-three battling the flu hospitalized with flesh-eating disease that has ravaged 30% of her soft tissue

A mother-of-three is fighting to survive a flesh-eating disease she caught after coming down with the flu. Christin Lipinski, of Arizona, has now been in intensive care for more than a week, and doctors have removed entire chunks of her arm to beat the bacteria which has ravaged 30 percent of her soft tissue. The disease took hold just days after special ed teacher Christin was diagnosed with influenza, which she treated at home. Just as she seemed to be recovering, her condition started worsening, with an intense pain in her armpit. Eventually, her husband Nate called an ambulance to take her to the nearest trauma unit where she was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, one of the most deadly flesh-eating bacteria. Source

FLU EPIDEMIC! CDC In Turmoil After Government Shut Down

Hospitals and CDC in turmoil after government shutdown at the height of the flu epidemic

As the flu cripples the US, the nation's epidemic war room the CDC is facing debilitating uncertainty in the wake of the government shutdown on Friday night. Last week, California and Alabama both declared states of emergencies for their flu epidemics, hospitals across the country reported IV, antiviral, staff and bed shortages, and 85 otherwise healthy adults and 20 children have died of the flu. Now, much of the staff that has been tracking the epidemic at the CDC and treating cases as the NIH is furloughed until legislators can reach a budget agreement. The Senate has passed a stopgap measure, but, with 70 people dying a week of flu, every hour until Congress signs off and the CDC can resume its regular activities could cost more American lives. Amsterdam suspends all flight services due to severe storm

AMSTERDAM: Amsterdam`s Schiphol airport briefly suspended all air traffic on Thursday due to a severe storm, as gusts of up to 140 kph (90 mph) blew down trees and damaged buildings.  "Due to severe weather conditions: all air traffic has been suspended until further notice," Schiphol airport, one of Europe's busiest flight hubs, said in a tweet. Air traffic will "gradually restart around 12:00 pm (1100 GMT)", the airport said. The cancellations notice came shortly after the Dutch national weather service upped its warning to the highest level. THURSDAY 18 JANUARY 2018 FIVE DEAD TRAIN CRASH MEXICO CITY

Train crashes in Mexico City suburb, killing at least 5

MEXICO CITY, Jan 18 (Reuters) - A train derailed in a densely populated Mexico City suburb on Thursday morning, killing at least five people, local authorities said.  The train, which was transporting cargo, crashed in Ecatepec, a large municipality in the State of Mexico that forms part of the urban sprawl extending from the capital. After the train ran off the tracks, one of its cars careened into a house, killing at least five inhabitants, the State of Mexico prosecutor's office said.  Authorities are in the process of removing debris from the house, and more victims will likely be found, the office added. This from yesterday:

Pickup, train collision in Mexico kills 5, injures 10

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities in central Mexico say a crash involving a pickup truck and a train has killed five people and injured 10 more, including six children.  The Jalisco state Civil Defense Department reports via Twitter that Wednesday's accident took place in Lagos de Moreno in the northeastern part of the state.  It posted pictures of the truck on the side of a road near a string of railroad tanker cars. The vehicle's bed was crumpled and separated from the cab.  Civil Defense said all the dead and wounded were riding in the pickup. It didn't say what caused the accident, but urged drivers not to try to beat trains at crossings and not to transport people in cargo beds. Source

I'm confused. either this is the same accident and the top story is incorrect or both news reports are correct and that would mean over 10 dead within two days.....that's strange.

THURSDAY 18 JANUARY 2018 SOUTH REELING FROM STORM INGA:

South reeling from Storm Inga: At least 11 dead and 100,000 without power after slow moving storm dumps a FOOT of snow, temperatures plunge to -15 in the wind and thousands - including Dale Earnhardt Jr. - struggle in treacherous road conditions

Several Southern states will be dealing with the lingering effects of a slow-moving winter storm that dumped a half-foot of snow on North Carolina's largest cities, dusted the Deep South and killed at least 10 people.  While Winter Storm Inga moved offshore late Wednesday, and the snow has now stopped, temperatures in the South will remain below freezing until Friday - when there's expected to be a major warm-up.   From Charlotte to Raleigh, North Carolina's five most populous cities all saw significant snow from a system that followed an atypical west-to-east path across the state.   By Wednesday afternoon, Winston-Salem, Greensboro and Durham each had more than six inches, while some places saw as much as 10 inches. Even the beach in Biloxi, Mississippi got a light coating.  Source

Philippines: Mount Mayon Volcano Erupts! 34,000 Souls Flee!

Glowing-red lava spurted and flowed down the Philippines’ most active volcano Tuesday in a stunning display of its fury that has caused more than 34,000 villagers to flee. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the lava flowed as much as 1.2 miles from the crater of Mount Mayon, and ash fell on several nearby villages. Officials strongly advised residents and tourists not to venture within four miles of Mayon. Renato Solidum, who heads the volcanology institute, said the flows cascading down the volcano were not caused by an explosion from the crater but by lava fragments breaking off from the lava flow and crashing on lower slopes. 13 DEAD IN CA FLOODS

Death toll now at 13 in Santa Barbara County flooding

MONTECITO, Calif. (KABC) -- At least 13 people have died in weather-related incidents in Santa Barbara County, authorities said Tuesday, as the Southland's first major winter storm triggered flooding and mudflows that forced the closure of the 101 Freeway in the Thomas Fire burn area. The fatality figure could increase as at least two dozen people were considered still missing as search-and-rescue efforts continued. "While we hope it will not, we expect that this number will increase as we continue to look for people who are still missing and unaccounted for," Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said. Details of the circumstances were not immediately disclosed. In addition to the fatalities, 25 people were reported to be injured. Source
